For gardeners working in confined spaces, Rhonda Massingham Hart presents an ingenious solution for maximizing productivity: grow up! With tepees, trellises, hanging baskets, cages, wall pockets, and multilevel raised beds, you can reap bountiful harvests in even the tiniest growing areas. From kiwis on a clothesline to tomatoes dangling outside a window, Vertical Vegetables & Fruit shows you how to construct and maintain a thriving and abundant garden in whatever small space you have available. Review: Increase your harvest by going vertical. - Good, straight forward advice on getting more space out of your garden plot by going vertical. Not the most recent book on the market, but full of hints and drawings of how to make full use of the area you have to work with. I particularly liked the method for cradling larger squash and pumpkins. Review: Full of great ideas and helpful information - We've lived in our house for 14 years now, and pretty much used the available yard space in our suburban lot backyard up! Where to put new plants, the veg garden, the squash and melons that send out runners and eat the yard? We tried raspberries and ended up tearing them out, blackberries too. If only I had started with Vertical Vegetable and fruit before trying to grow those plants. This book offers great information on various techniques to grow up instead of out. Ideas for trellises, teepees, fencing, and how to build them makes this book worthwhile on its own, but then the author gives varieties of plants to grow, where to grow them, zone info, how to train them, etc. We are going to try raspberries again, blackberries, grapes (did you know for best grape production don't improve the ground too much with compost or the rich soil will encourage the grapes to grow more leaves and vine instead of fruit? Me either!), melons, and squash, I can't wait! This book makes me and Jim want to go plant something, now!

Good "how to" book for home gardening.
I really found this book to be helpful in setting up my areas at home for vertical gardening. This book explains not only why this type of gardening is good for small areas but for growing many different types of vegetables and fruits without breaking your back trying to put in large gardens that are back breaking work. It is easier to maintain vertically grown vegetables and fruits than in traditional gardens. This book helps with understanding why this true. I would recommend this book for any home gardener as an alternative style for growing plants at home.

Last Summer's Gardening
My husband was in charge of our garden last Summer. He tried the beans and cucumbers growing upward, but found it to be tedious. However, the tomatoes resulted in a bigger crop and less ground rot. Some of the suggestions sound wonderful, but one needs to be committed to gardening much more than I am! Good book though!

REALLY LOVE THIS BOOK!!
I'm VERY happy and EXCITED by this book. I've got so many ideas for this growing season. I don't have much room and this will help me to make the most out of what room I've got. The writing is very easy to read and understand. I like the humor and enjoy the pictures and tips. I VERY much recommend this book for those who want to make the most out of what little space they have.

Great book about a growing trend in gardening!
As a Master Gardener, I'm aware of some of the fabulous new projects using vertical gardening on a grand scale. But, this book has plenty of ideas for your own back yard, which not only save horizontal space in your landscape, but usually require less digging, tilling, and hoeing! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to garden but has limited space.

Like it a lot.
I really like this book. There are a lot of suggestions for verticle gardening plus there is a lot of information about how to grow beans, peas, tomatoes, cubumbers, squash and gourds, melons, sweet potatoes, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, grapes and kiwis plus other plants. A lot of how to do it yourself projects. I am really glad I bought the book.
