AmazonBasics Foldable Octagonal Indoor/Outdoor Portable Soft Pet Dog Playpen with Storage Pockets, Large (45 x 45 x 24 inches), Grey

I love this. I ordered the Portable Travel Playpen by AmazonBasics for multiple litters of kittens, that my girls had, last year. The primary litter was approaching one month old, and the secondary litter was about a week old. Kittens don't do much within the first month after birth. Their eyes open in 7-10 days after birth. They crawl on their bellies for about the first two to two and a half weeks. From three to four weeks of age, their mobility improves but generally they have basic and limited motor skills. It is in the second month of age that they become more agile, and can run, jump, climb, and pounce. (Although if there are older cats in the house, the litter can be more developmentally advanced. I had one litter of kittens that were jumping, climbing, running, and pouncing, at one month of age.) The kittens in the primary litter were fast-approaching that rambunctious stage that cute baby cats are famous for. My cats are indoor-outdoor, and they love being outside. I believe in letting cats explore and enjoy nature, since it is instinct for them to want to be outdoors. I wanted my girls, and their litters, to be able to enjoy the warm weather, and sounds of the season, but I also didn't want to expose them to any danger. Even though the yard is fenced in, kittens can still get very hurt, because they tend to wander. Much like human babies, they want to taste everything, even if it is potentially poisonous. I wanted for the kittens to be able to explore safely, under supervision of course, and not worry about them falling down a drain, or eating out of garbage cans, or crawling under a fence, never to be seen again. A travel playpen is the perfect solution. The AmazonBasics portable playpen is great. Although it is made for small dogs, it works great for kittens. It opens (and closes) very easily. It comes with a nice travel bag. It is very easy to clean. Just wipe with a damp rag, or hose off and let dry. Both the bottom and top flaps unzip. It is made of quality material and isn't flimsy. It is a very good size; and, is a great size for kittens, and small cats. I had as many as nine kittens (between one and two months of age) in the playpen at once. I even let mama cat stay with her litter to nurse periodically. Both of my girls are petite, and at that time weighing about five to six pounds. So, one six pound cat and four or five babies, can fit into it comfortably. The older, much bigger boys, even liked it. I had a kitten sized litter box (XS) in it at times because the kittens were learning to use it. I also had a few toys in it for them. So as not to make it crowded, I would rotate the litters of kittens inside of the playpen. I would put them all in it, and then take one or a few out at a time, and let them explore, while the others stayed inside of the playpen. I covered the bottom with an old towel, but as mentioned, it wipes clean very easily. It is very durable. It is very sturdy. It was able to support the weight of kittens climbing, and jumping, on top of it (see photos) while the others were inside playing. It held up well against kittens biting, scratching, climbing, pouncing, and jumping on it. I have added in a few photos of it in which the older cats are close-by, to provide a better visual of the playpen's overall size. This is an awesome playpen, and I highly recommend it. I am very happy with my purchase, and I would definitely purchase this again.

I have never been so impressed by an Amazon basics items before. Was looking for a pen for my kitten so we can keep him contained after getting fixed, big enough to walk around and fit a litter box, but small enough that it fits in our apartment. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this item! It’s super durable, really large, and comes with a carrying case! It’s easy to fold and it fits my kitten, his food, his litter box, and a place to lay down to rest after his surgery. The price is right and it’s something I can use outside if we decide to do a “catio” situation on a nice day and get him some fresh air.

I never write reviews, but I was so pleased with this product, I decided it was time. I purchased this pet pen for my cat. She loves being outside, but we live very close to the street, and I am not comfortable with letting her out to roam. The pen was purchased to give her time outside in a safe, comfortable manner. It is more than large enough for my cat to play and jump around. Every side has a large screen panel to offer visibility and air flow. The ceiling is also 2/3 screen, the remaining 1/3 offers shade, which is very useful on a warm day. Two of the eight sides have a zippered entry, and the entire top also can be removed by zipper. Same for the floor, which is made of a solid material. As for durability/sturdiness, it looks well enough made. I haven’t had it very long. Certainly my docile cat is secure. A pet who likes to chew might be able to wreak havoc. The zippers are plastic, but they work. While the quality is definitely good enough, it is actually better than I expected since the price was very low. It is made of non-absorbent material. A mess could be cleaned with wipes. The pen comes in a reusable, compact, zippered bag and folds down intuitively, like most pop-up products. I plan to use it daily on our deck and I know I could pack it easily for a trip. :)

Soo this is a nice temporary set up for some cute little surprises we got over the summer 🙃 we don't have very much space for kittens, so I needed something to get here quick and for cheap ( im broke ) this is the cheapest one of these I could find for it's size. It's really nice. The kittens are 3 weeks now and are starting to shit ( lovely ) and the bottom is a plastic, which is easy to clean. It holds it's shape VERY well. I can lean on the sides and it will bounce right back up. It's also super easy to store with the little zip up case it comes in. When it arrived, I opened the box, opened the zip up bag, and it pretty much popped open right away. The packets are alright for small cat toys but they are quite small. MY FAVORITE PART is the top can zip off, which Is nice to see the kittens but when they get bigger and they start climbing more and jumping, we can put it back on at night so they aren't all over the house at night. THE REASON ITS A 4 STARS is the zippers are just ever so slightly janky. It can be a tad bit difficult to zip up the door and top, but it's not the biggest problem. It is one of the cheaper ones so I was expecting some things wrong with it, but for a little more then $40 ( I got free shipping for free 7 day trial) it's was worth it to me.

This is a supreme product and is so well priced. We have a boxer puppy and he loves it. It is indestructible and now he’s 5 months old and weighs 40lbs he loves to collapse the pen and watch it pop back up again. It’s very robust and it’s faced the ultimate boxer challenge. Great product and a life saver to distract a lively puppy.

Great for housing kittens you are nursing which is what I use it for while they wean. Probably not strong enough for puppies

I don’t normally write scathing, flaming reviews, but I do want to let other pet owners know what happened with this enclosure. I’m a new and fairly clueless kitten rescuer. Doing it on my own, and there was about a week before I could get the little fella to the vet. I didn’t want to put a 4 lb active kitten in a tiny crate, so I thought this pen would do for a week. It worked great for a day. The mesh held up well to tiny claws (and is still holding) and it’s nice and roomy. That’s where the positive ends. The zippers that the manufacturer used are beyond cheap. They are not suitable for heavy duty use, nor should they have been used for zipping around corners/curves like the top roof and door openings. They stick, they come pulled open spontaneously (in the middle), and they after two days, the top zipper straight up broke. This pen is for pets. They are unpredictable by nature and tend to dart and run. You need to be able to rely on a zipper to close quickly when a wiggly kitty is trying his best to make his Great Escape. I’ve ordered a nice big metal cage and as soon as that arrives (fingers crossed!) this piece of crap is getting sent back for a refund. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

The playpen was just the right size; roomy but not too big for my cat. The playpen is well constructed, is constructed out of a pretty blue material. My wife and I are very pleased with our purchase.

We purchased this to help with introducing our new kitten safely into our household. We had an older cat and wanted to make sure they were carefully introduced. This playpen was a PERFECT size for our kitten and allowed for all of his things to be placed inside with him at night. He was very comfortable and it provided a great way to slowly introduce our kitties - who are now the best of friends! Highly recommend. This product is sturdy, easy to assemble and to disassemble for storing, and is of high quality!

UPDATE Amazon customer service has been superb! I was going to return the item but was offered a replacement. I still needed the pen for the foster kitten so I accepted it. The new one arrived and the zip is perfect, very smooth so I think the last one was just faulty maybe. Anyway long story short I asked if I could donate the faulty one to the rescue charity and the agent said, without hesitation YES! Waste management and charity support both solved in one go! Thank you Amazon Original review This pet playpen is superb quality, except for the zip unfortunately. It is robust and very well made, the fabric is well stitched and the design is excellent. However, the zip already had just one tooth missing on the zip. It hasn’t technically caused a problem yet, but the zip has come apart once when our tiny rescue kitten bounced into the roof. It will only get worse. This particular zip is tricky to do up, it sticks. You have to use two hands to get it closed and feed the two edges together to do so. Meanwhile a bumptious kitten is trying to escape! I’m going to give it another go and get a replacement. Fingers crossed it was just a faulty model. I really hope so as the zip was the ONLY problem, other than that the product is fantastic!
