J Is for Jamaica (World Alphabets) Review: Excellent for young Jamaican kids - I found this title while looking around for culturally relevant educational books for my grandson who is just under 3 years old. Most of the alphabet books available in Jamaica are produced elsewhere and reference things that are not readily recognized by our children. When I saw 'J is for Jamaica' I figured it must be available locally, but I couldn't find it. I'm glad I sent off for it because my grandson just loves it. He reads it everyday. It is colorful, and the illustrations are actual photos, not drawings or cartoons! I would recommend this book to any Jamaican parent or educator, or anyone who wants to teach their kids about Jamaica. Review: Perfect for Young Ones Headed to Jamaica for the First Time! - Picked this up for my 7 year old to allow him to become more familiar with the landscape and culture of Jamaica. Very good pictures, and a great, "everyday" Jamaica portrayal. It did not focus on beaches, resorts, etc... I loved it for that reason!

beautiful pictures
This book had beautiful pictures, but the rhymes felt a bit forced in parts. I enjoyed sharing it with my 5-y-o son.

Happy mom
This book is wonderful. My husband and I go to Jamaica every two years and plan to take our kids someday. In the meantime this is a great way of introducing them to the cultures and sites of this great country. The pictures are great. I love the honesty and the hopefulness of the rhymes. I would highly recommend this to those who have been to Jamaica as well as those who have not.

All things relative to Jamaica while learning the Alphabet
I purchased this item to donate to a Jamaican basic school. I was super excited to see an alphabet book that relates to the country of Jamaica. Everything is relative to Jamaicans and Jamaican children. A is for Ackee and then goes on for about 4 lines about Ackee. G is for Goat, etc. It is a wonderful book. I also think It would be great to teach the alphabet to a child while they were learning about another country.

So glad I found this book.
So happy I found this book, so I can continue to expose my 4yr old daughter to the Jamaican part of her heritage. Very real, vivid pictures of all of the things she was used to seeing when we were there. I would recommend this book for any child.

This is not for children under age of 5. Very nice otherwise! Educational and insightful
The book introduces the culture showing land, foods and clothing of Jamaicans. Engaging and educational but certainly not for little guys under 5: too much to think about or understand or discuss

Bought this book for my daughter as I wanted her to learn more about the rich and varied Jamaican culture, her father and grandad are Jamaican. It details the food, pastimes, people and wildlife in a rhyming style from A-Z e.g A is for Ackee, B is for Blue mountain and so on. It's a bit advanced for daughter, she's only 20 months, but she does enjoy looking at the pictures, the understanding will come later. The book is written with a lot of affection and pride for Jamaica (as you would expect) and best of all it is one of the few books my husband likes reading to our daughter! Which can only be a good thing. Another excellent book from the talented Mr Zephaniah.

This book not only teaches the alphabet, but is very informative about Jamaica. Its child friendly and includes real life photos to illustrate each word signifying each letter.

Excellent book for young children. Colourful pictures, easy to follow, great for using in schools to educate children about Jamaica. I got this for a 5 year old who wanted to know about hs Jamaican roots.

Really disappointed with the print quality of this book. One of the things I was looking forward to was looking through the pictures with my 2 year old but the pages and especially the picture look like they were printed on a home computer - very grainy and dark, not at all what I was expecting from a published book
