" Working Conjure is a blessing. With the increasing commodification of African American and African Diasporic traditions, books about our practices that are simple, direct, and useful seem few and far between. Hoodoo Sen Moise manages to balance a solid delivery on the practice of Conjure with just enough theory to create a foundation to do this spiritual workโwhich is not, as he also reminds us, spiritual easyโand to continue the work given to us by our ancestors to heal each other and the world we share."โMambo Chita Tann, author of Haitian Vodou Conjure, also known as Hoodoo or Rootwork, is an old and powerful system of North American folk magic. Its roots derive primarily from West and Central African spiritual traditions but it developed during the slave trade and its purpose at that time was to help ease the terrible oppression experienced by the slaves. Working Conjure explores the history, culture, principles, fundamentals, and ethics of Conjure, while simultaneously serving as a practical how-to guide for actually doing the work. Author Hoodoo Sen Moise has been a practitioner for nearly forty years. In Working Conjure , his first book, he shares the techniques and lessons that will bring Hoodoo alive to those who are new to the practice as well as useful and enlightening information for the adept. In the book he: Explores the primary materials used in Conjure Features spells, rituals, and workings for various purposes Guides readers to learn how to bring this profound school of magic to life โConjure,โ writes Hoodoo Sen Moise, โis not a religion or spiritual path, per se, but rather magic/spiritual work that is done to bring about change in a situation. Whether that situation is a relationship, money, a job, revenge, healing, or cleansing, the fundamental tenet of Conjure is to do work that changes the circumstance.โ Review: An Essential Guide to Authentic Hoodoo Practices - Working Conjure: A Guide to Hoodoo Folk Magic by Hoodoo Sen Moise is an absolute gem for anyone interested in exploring the rich traditions of Hoodoo. Review: Knowledgeable and Comprehendable: Worthy of any Personal Library - This is a well written book that with each chapter gives true praise to 35 years of experience from the author. Working Conjure begins with a brief history of how it was introduced to the American Culture but quickly jumps into the core of how working conjure is performed. Each chapter identifies a specific area of conjure from the importance and significance of both the materials required and the ways in which they are used. One does not need to have a prior knowledge of conjure to receive all the values this book contains. Working Conjure does well to identify the true nature of working with hoodoo and conjure through clear explanation of each step for why each is performed and does a perfect job of identifying true practice from misconceptions of movies and fictional stories. I am fortunate to have meet the author and have attended classes of his and this book is like have a personal class from him whenever I need a refresher, my only wish is to see more volumes from him.

Comprehensive, Informative and FUN!
This book is very informative and delivers what it promises in the form of basic and important guidance in how to conjure. I picked up this little gem in order to deepen my understanding as well as research for a fictional story I am writing. In the process, I incorporated some of the rituals and suggestions into my own practice as they are enjoyable and I resonate with a lot of it. Personally, I could do without the prayers and the Bible verses, but having practiced hoodoo and conjure myself over the years, I can respect it as a part of the history and practice. While that part is not my cup of tea, there is still a lot of good information and guidance here for an old Chaote like me, and I'm happy with my purchase.

Learn Real Conjure, Hoodoo, from a real Expert
Hoodoo Sen Moise teaches you some real magic and Conjure- Hoodoo in this wonderful book. Heโs straight forward, down to earth and gets you all you need to get a great foundation and also get started working some Conjure for yourself. Another great part is that he grew up around this powerful work, which makes this book extra special, as it gives a rare insiderโs view into this magical world and culture. The Author does an amazing job and gives you rare step by step recipes which you can use yourself. An excellent teacher, Hoodoo also gets in deep on some foundational cores of Conjure which are often glossed over. This book is a much needed asset to anyone interested in Conjure. Beginners and experts alike can gain from this volume. Absolutely loved this book and being involved in related Traditions, it gave me a clearer, deeper and better understanding of this particular path. Papa Houngan Hector

Best Hoodoo Book for Beginners!
This is a great book if you are interested in Hoodoo and you don't know where to start. Moise uses a very understandable anecdotes and makes an informative argument on the realiablity, history, and seriousness of hoodoo as a tradition. He is very detailed in his spells and explains step by step how to complete them as he's learned. He gives wisdom and personal advice as well as personal stories from his own experience. It's an easy read! If you're serious about learning hoodoo, you may want to get a notebook and take notes. I've found that helpful. I've found this book to be something like a beginners guide, and after finishing it, you will have basic knowledge of Hoodoo as a tradition, how to practice it safely, and instructions on performing the 'Work'.

Fantastic read
Great book. I keep seeing people say that certain books are for beginners and I donโt like to label books โbeginnerโ or โadvancedโ because ever book has value and you will hear something you can use. This book brings lots of fantastic spiritual teachings to the table and Iโm very happy with my purchase. Thereโs information for beginners and advanced in there. The only thing I can say thatโs kind of a bummer is some of the things he includes for spell ingredients like 3 tablespoons of dirt from the grave of someone who died of a broken heart? Or dirt from the grave of someone who died a violent death or the fingernail clippings, hair or saliva from someone, if you donโt get along with this person how are you going to do that? Other then that part itโs a fantastic read.

Old-style, useful, and easy-to-follow conjure
This book is awesome. It is written so intelligently and in such a folkish kind of style. The rituals are so easy to follow. I mean unless you don't mind people watching you kneeling down and praying psalms at the crossroads or hanging voodoo dolls upside down in the cemetery. . . lol. What I like most is how he avoids trying to sell "mysterious" hoodoo oils and washes with mysterious names and instead gives you detailed instructions on how to do them yourself. In short, the book provides an excellent summary of the philosophy or principle behind hoodoo and then provides practical rituals that anyone can do or incorporate in their daily lives. I rate it A+.

Perfect for those reconnecting with their culture
Sen appeal to both those who have grown up in the environment of conjure, and those who follow La Regla de Ocha (despite these things obviously being separate). This is a great starting point for people just beginning to reconnect and find their way in voodoo and houdou, respectively. Outlines lots of universal principles and concepts which will be familiar to those of Caribbean descent as well. 11/10, Sen!
