I followed the directions and covered them with boiling water. After 30 minutes the water was cold and the mushrooms were still not tender. So, I popped the bowl into the microwave and microwaved them on high for 1 minute. I poked them with a fork and they were tender. I chopped them up into the size I wanted for my dish. Because I had cooked them and not only soaked them, I knew that some of the flavor would be in the water and would have cooked out of the mushrooms themselves. Therefore, I added the mushroom water to the rice and continued cooking until the water had evaporated. It was only 1/2 cup of water so it didn't take long. That little bit of mushroom water added a nice boost of flavor to the rice. I could have also saved it and Frozen it into ice cube trays so that I would have mushroom seasoning to pop into gravies and sauces if I needed it in the future. I do that with lots of different broths and flavorings. These mushrooms had a very nice flavor and texture and did not lose much taste in the soaking and cooking process. In fact, they were very flavorful. I'm glad I bought the two packages because I'm going to use these up in no time ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really does have peppery flavor. *by I***8 on May 11, 2020* Don't ignore the peppery flavor description. Really potent if your diet tends to be on the bland side as mine is.
