What's the privacy cover for?

It covers the camera and IR sensors. There was concern that the kinect could be activated remotely and view your residence.

"Pull the back bar down"? I'm reading the instructions and it says to pull the back bar down, is it supposed to require some force? It feels like I'm going to break it.

It takes a little bit of force, but as long as you don't put all of the force on one part, it shouldn't break.Look at the picture on Amazon to see how it is supposed to drop down.

Will it fit a 47" zenith plasma tv

It should accommodate just about any flat screen TV. The mount is adjustable and can be extended to fit a pretty thick TV.

Does it improve the accuracy of the hand gesture functions. Our Kinects current location seems to make it have trouble noticing a hand.

It does because it positions the Kinect better. This helps avoid obstructions.
