Chavant's history dates back to 1610, when Jacques Chavant settled in the Dordogne region of France. For the next 200 years, the company was controlled by his descendants. During this time, Chavant became one of the most influential ceramists in Europe. After Jacques died, his son founded the company's first oven on the same site as the family home. The company began to produce tableware and high-quality decorative items for aristocratic families. In 1867, an industrial revolution led to the establishment of new production methods which allowed for mass production of ceramic products. This became a major turning point for Chavant. Production of mugs, plates, bowls, teapots, vases, and other household items increased significantly during this period of time. However, these items were not considered high art due to their low cost. The company continued to produce high-quality decorative items with traditional designs but also began to produce pottery and home decor that was more affordable. Today, Chavant continues to produce affordable high-quality ceramic products with modern designs that are still considered high art by many collectors.
